1st April 2007, Association Cup: Alameda Athletic 0 - Rovers 2
Goals: John Wilmott, Vasily Slepets

Great win yesterday and a really flattering 2-0 scoreline (flattering to them not us) - I blame the Nike beach ball we had to play with, not 100% on our finishing. Thanks must go to everyone that came out to play yesterday, up until Saturday it looked like we'd be starting with 10 men! For those that didn't make the game, John Wilmott opened the scoring after 15 minutes with a quality on-the-turn volley following a free kick by yours truly. We had a number of other great opportunities with some beautiful wing-play from Wrighty and penetrating runs through the middle from Jezz and were only a whisker away on many occasions. The back four was solid through the entire game and Sean Carlin again was a rock as our stand-in sweeper. So we went in 1-0 up at half time but despite the close scoreline Matt hadn't even been called on to make a save! The second half turned into a shooting gallery for us as we stormed forward to secure the win. Some great strikes brought even better saves from their keeper, but it took someone kicking that crappy Nike ball into the creek before we scored again. Pretty much straight after we brought in a real ball a cross swung in from the right saw Vas slam home a sweet volley, Rovers 2-0, and game over. We made a few changes and saw out the rest of the game comfortably. Looks like we'll be on ice for a couple of weeks as American International still have to negotiate the Crown Old boys in their quarter final match (we play the winner in the C / B bracket semis). As most of you know Africari fell to C division team Berkeley Jnrs yesterday 1-0 and so I know it's one game at a time, but that's who we'd play in the final.
Cheers, Andy
